Rat look for me started out of frustration as my 200 SX was off road and I needed a car to get to work in.
A bloke I know was scrapping his Mrs. 1.1 Punto...it had 11 months m.o.t. and a bit of an oil leak but nothing else
really wrong so I gave him 16 quid (it had 15 quids worth of fuel in the tank) so he didn't have to pay the
scrapyard to dispose of it.On the way back up the M1 a bit of spirited driving resulted in the backbox blowing
up :lol ....

Image
Image
Image

^^^ Doh!! Never mind soon fixed it...50 quid for a new system (dead cheap these Euro-motors).

Once it was ok again I used it to go to car shows and club meets as it was cheap and my SX wasn't going to be fixed.

Image

As my fellow club (Japmids.com) members started rippin' the p*ss I thought I would *ahem* alter the Punto's
appearance. This was to be my rat-look cherry popping moment. It started with a few stickers then out came
the satin black spray paint....didn't have any sandpaper so used a wirebrush :lol this was time consuming so
I just sprayed the paint onto th car (including spraying over the bird sh*t :rolleyes )....

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

My brother in law popped round for a coffee and was roped into it as well......

Image
Image

Painted the headlights yellow....also added some more stickers (can't have too many stickers :lol )

Image
Image

While we were painting it at the side of the road a bloke drove past and offered me a set of cheap
5 spokes..soon as the paint dried we popped round and fitted them.....

Image
Image

New boot badge sums it up nicely....

Image

Next step was to take the car to a bloke down the road who chequered the roof for not-a-lot...

Image
Image
Image
Image

Then some tw*t put the side window through,so stood like a plank in Morrison's carpark I
made some matching window tint using binbags and masking tape :lol

Image
Image

^^^Now that's ghetto-spec :chill

More stickers :D ....and a funky petrol spill...

Image
Image

Next up were a sey of German style plates from Dubmeister and a set of dodgy old bonnet straps...

Image
Image
Image

The front wheel arch was a bit crispy so helped it on it's way with a bit of Nitromoors and a wire brush....

Image
Image

Then added my Isotta Katiena wheel and an Elvis wiper stalk...

Image

Also extended the gear lever and added some leopard print bits......

Image
Image

Made my own roof rack for 9 quid using some metal box section and wooden slats from B&Q....

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The front wing had started to rust now so added some chequered tape to the rubstrips.......

Image
Image

These didn't stick well so I put them on the paint higher up.....

Image

Next step was to properly mount the roof rack......

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Matching petrol can :ghey :lol

Image

By now I was getting into the rat-look so decided to add a few more tried nd tested bits....

Yellow spotlight...

Image

Bit more rust on the wing.....

Image

Roof mounted crap.....

Image

Iron cross valve cap used for door pin...

Image

Image

I got side tracked for the next few weeks with the arrivalof my Lexus so only managed to do these....

Image

After seeing the car sat outside work looking sorry for itself I thought I better do some more.......

Image

Colour change number2,never thought the blck really highlighted the chequers so I decided to redo it
in oxide red primer.....

Image

We also decided to chop a few coils out of the lowering springs as they weren't low enough.
So my mate hit the grinder while I gotbuy masking.....

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Got lazy with the fronts and clamped the springs and ground the coils out whilst still fitted...

Image

Then ouside for a 30 minute spray job....

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Next up was a d.i.y. gash atempt at a bonnet bra...spray on glue, mstick material down
and edge it with duct tape :rolleyes ......

Image
Image
Image

Yet MORE stickers :lol ....

Image

To add a bit more aerodynamics ( :D :ghey ) I adapted a spoiler inteded for a Yaris.
Amazing what you can bodge with a grinder some tie wraps and duct tape...

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Repainted bonnet Hammerite black and gave the spoiler a quick going over...

Image

Cut another coil off the front springs as well...

Image

Wnt home from my mates unit and promptly twatted it into a kerb as I forgot it was lower :rolleyes
Duct tape soon sorted it.....

Image
Image
Image

While I was a work I painted the front with oxide primer....

Image
Image
Image
Image

I will have to post my other pics up later as last week I painted the car Nato matt green so
this is already out of date :lol

This is my usual car below..but I use the Punto as my daily driver to get to work,it was
made as a bit of a laugh and is the exact opposite to what I drive at shows but it never
fails to make me laugh and that for me is what Rattng is all about :chill

Image

EDIT......

Got my computer working so have included the pics of what it looks like now....

Bought a few odds and sods to do a military theme....

Image

Using a 4 inch paste brush whacked on the Nato green matt paint...

Image
Image
Image

Replaced the Isotta wheel with a wood rim one........

Image

Added some little jerry cans and an ammo box to the rack...

Image

Then some cammo side stripes to replace the chequers....

Image

Painted the indicators to match the headlights and fitted a square number plate....

Image
Image
Image :D

Still stands me in at less than 300 quid :lol
Alloys were the worse bit as they were 100 quid but they did come with an
alternator, starter motor, front and rear lights,4 inch back box and cone filter,
parcel shelf and some orange flashing lights.
Most of the stuff can be done cheaply if you look in B and Q instead of car shops.
The extended gear lever was made using 3 quids worth of chrome tubing and hammered
onto the gear lever.Similarly the roof rack was made for about 9 quid using some
metal box section and some wood cut into slats. That's the great thing about Rat look
as you can do things really cheaply.Let me know if you need any advice on where to get stuff.

To chequer the roof it's probably best to do it yourself using some vinyl offcuts
from a signwriters otherwise most people charge about 35-70 quid, mine wasn't :lol
The black chequers are matt paint from wen it was black and the white are vinyl.

The front spoiler is screwed on in random places and smoothed with duct tape :lol
The spotlight was mounted by drilling an undersize hole into the bumper then using
a 5 inch roofing bolt to make sure it doesnt fall off.I must admit I'm a bit of a sticker
whore,I keep updating them as and when I find new ones and people keep giving
me ones to add.Was bored at work again today so got the Nitromoors out on the front
wing as I missed my rusty bits. While I was at it I painted my towing eyes red and Duct
taped an old 16v roof aerial to the standard Punto base bit.I have included some pics
of a sticker I made for the front window as well...

This is a very cool project :D

It looks like it's been a lot of fun to do, and the gearknob is just insanely funny. Really enjoyable thread to read :chill

I for one, can't wait to see a nice shiney boosted Volvo lump in there... :chill :insanity

I really like this actually, have to admit when i started reading I thought I was gonna hate it. The Camo look is definitely the best of the lot, can't help but think just how good it would look with a nice wide set of wheels though. I know the point of it is to be pure budget but splashing out on some wheels could really make this something special.

^^^ I've been pondering as to whether or not to get some wheels but my Lexus needs coilovers first :lol

Think I probably will as I won't be doing anymore to the Lex once it's slammed.I have narrowed potential wheels
for the Punto down to 3 sets at the moment.....

1. Schmidt modern line 1pc in 8x15 with 195's stretched.
2. Rota RB's i gunmetal (minilite lookylikies) in 8x15.
3. Wellet steel wheels in black.
With an 8 inch rim I think I'm going to have to adapt (ie bodge :lol ) some mk2 Golf or Mini wheelarch extension.

I've got another couple of mods to do on my day off that should be quite smart, will put pics up as and when I do stuff.
Hopefully the engine will die soon then I'm going to get a cheap Punto GT turbo version and transfer all the stuff over.

No, it needs something wide, the only thing this car needs now is stance and it needs wide wheels for that.

Done a bit more on the old girl today.
First up some repairs to the front lip using my old friend Mr. Duct tape.
Had an idea about smoothing off the bumpers so thought I'd give it a
go.......

Image
Image

Pulled of the passenger side rub strips as they're only stuck on.....

Image
Image
Image

Pained over some of the Hammerite on the bonnet....

Image
Image

Covered the parcel shelf in chequered cloth and fitted new iron cross gear knob.....

Image
Image

Doesn't look too bad once the paint dried a bit. Will probably make more of an effort to get
the bumpers properly smooth, will probably do drives side and rest of bumpers next...
