Week 1: I bought this astra named (BUZZ LIGHTYEAR OF STAR COMMAND) just beacuse I could no longer afford to run my BMW 5 series. It had was £60, had 1 month MOT, I taxed it and replaced the front discs, pads, drums, shoes, and handbrake cable and a bulb or two for it to sail through it's MOT.
These 1st pics were week 1 just starting to sand some of the paint off and slap some stickers on!

Week 2: I had sanded down the bonnet a little more and sticker up even more..so far nothing major!

Seems to have a Lazy starter motor so until I'm not broke, jump and bump starts are a common thing!

This is for my girlfriend Amy!

Retro! Not a cd player in sight!

Week 11:By this time I had sanded down the paint on my doors hoping to create a hotrod style Flame look but with flames of rust.
Image
Image
1 sander just wasn't enough for Oli!

What you think guys? Good? bad? I'm thinking maybe in a month or 2 I'll be rusting the whole thing!

week 16: Loads more has happenened now!
This is what a standard Rover 25's 1.4 wheel looks like next to the steels I have on mine. the guy at the local tyre place reckons the previous owner of my astra had some alloys on that got knicked or he took them off and replaced them with Vauxhall Nova 13inch wheels with 155 wide tyres, it handles like something from the 1930's!

Image

when I was looking for something to rat a while back I thought of getting a GOLF or a POLO but this way i can have loads of POLO's

Image

My drivers window had a damaged regulator so i went to the scrap yard got a spare, drilled out the rivetts, fitted it then realised that was knackered too! Got another and now at long last I can risk the Mcdonalds drive thru without getting laughed out of the car park!

Image
Image

Now with Duct tape viper stripes!

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Nowadays everyone ratting has something on their roof, wether its just a roofrack or fuel cans, bird cages, bikes, wheels. i decided to go for something different and more seasonal.

Image

Image

Ok thats it for now, thinking of setting out to rust the whole car over the next week or so so watch this space....Buzz Lightyear will be looking very different and rusted soon!

ok the ace sticker was from Zavvi, i've seen HMV sell these also. Sometimes it appears on Ebay if you search under 'Guitar stickers'.

My way of adding the writing to the bonnet was not great.
I sanded all the Paint and primer off the bonnet,
I then immidiatly stuck some cut out vinyl stickers onto the bonnet and left them for 4 weeks.
Then When the whole bonnet had consistently gone brown I peeled the vinyls off, then sprayed and massaged WD-40 into the whole bonnet.

These pics were taken a day or two after I had peeled off the vinyls but now the '£60' and 'BYE BYE' have completely gone.

When the whole car has been sanded and gone rusty I'm going to try to seal and protect the rust from going out of control by coating it in a clear lacquer, this will give the rust a sort of gloss effect, i've not seen it done before so will give it a go but if i was gonna do the writing thing again i would peel off the vinyls after a months or so then lacquer them in to be sealed. not sure if this will work or look good though.

cant lower the car which I know is really annoying but i use this bad boy to drive across alot of fields and off roading and stuff. (I've thought about jacking it up with off road wheels and maybe spotlights). Yeah not sure what to do with the wheels, at the mo I have 1 in every colour I think would look good so I can ask peoples opinions on what looks the best. Its torn between Kawasaki green and red at the mo though. gonna wait for my lady to return from America in a few months before I change the wheel colour.

Jon

shame you can't lower it but sanding the whole thing and painting all the wheels one colour will look cool.

Had a bit of a crazy idea today.... Sand the whole car down....let it rust and go golden for a month or so....then paint over in a very thin, cheap layer of New York City Taxi Yellow with Chequers down the doors.... Such a thin layer of paint that the rust will gradually start corroding and eating into it from beneath in random places...I know tha Taxi thing really has been done but I reckon this may work???

What do you guys think?

Sorry but with my best computer skills at work... this is all I can do....and its on paint.(even my pc skills are ratlook)..only found out what photoshop was last week. I'm such a crap 22 year old! Anyway I'm thinking from this...........

Image

To this.....................

Image

Then maybe this.............................

Image

I'm not sure myself?

Oh yeah... all I've ever had is BMW's all my life... I've had loads and its sort of been like my trademark. I'm so glad ratlook allows for you to do what the hell you want and for me to still wear that BMW badge! :lol And it seems to be a perfect fir to where the Vauxhall badge used to be!

Ok just what I got upto today, You guys said either all Red or all Green wheels but I'm torn so I'm compromising. Gonna have Portside Red and Starboard Green....is that right? thought that would be pretty cool. Not got them back on yet cos gonna let em dry overnight. Have sanded down the front passengers door completely today so will get pics up in a day or two when I've hopefully done the whole nearside of the car. It lies tonight on axle stands coated in layers and layers of NitroMors, let me down yesterday with a knackered starter motor...I have had to smack it with a hammer everytime I started it for weeks now and while I'm at it gonna replace the battery as its flat as a witches tit! More pics of complete sanding in a couple of days!

can't wait to see this fully rusted . You could always stencil some taxi signs on it anyway ? As GOD said , the guy who sells the 'No-Brakes' stickers is a friend of ours , a legend by the name of Bodydrop who used to own the best hot rod look Nova saloon ever ! There's a pic or two of it on GODs photobucket IIRC ;)

well today I sanded down the whole nearside so is shiny and chrome lookin at the mo, cant wait til that sucker is flakey brown! Gonna hopefully do the offside tomorrow and then i can get out the good old trusty rubber mallet and create some bumps and lumps on the body! YeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaa! I cant wait!

Oh my mates ratting a fiat cinquecento and am tryin to get him to put it up here on Rat-look but he's going sort out an electrical prob 1st as its a non runner! so far he's stripped the interior and he has a small easle with chalkboard in the back. He wants to bolt to school chairs in theback with small desks and maybe make a tiny bookcase for 1 side to have small resource books in....(think he's going for a school classroom theme)! watch this space guys, He's in two minds wether to do all this at them mo as he's not sure ratting is for him but he's only 17 and i think with ideas like that he really could build something really special! hope to have some pics and a new member soon! :)

yeah I think the taxi idea wins! Gonna wait a couple of months first for the panels to be propperly brown! What paint do you think will flake and peel the best to reveal the rust underneath? Rattle cans? or Cheap intustrial metal paint? I think the industrial paint will offer too much protection!

Nearside of the car browning already, if my new battery arrives anytime soon will turn it around and sand down the offside today,
will upload some pics when I've finished in a day or 2! :P

id use rattle cans, then a wire brush to reveal the rust quickly

Hey, why waiting when you can get it quickly . . . .

1. mix some water with vinegary, use this to "clean" the bonet, fender and doors . . . (in the best case you will have an brown car over night)

2. if you want to be shure that the parts will rust quickly, use after 1. some water mixed with sea salt bath additive or simply water mixed with salt (salt for winter against snow). make all parts wet with this . . . you will see some results quickly!

sorry my english is not the best . . .

my bumpers (only with method 2 with winter salt):
day 0
Image

day 1
Image

day 6
Image

day 12
Image

but i have only some parts polished, not the whole bumper . . .

hope you understand my google translator englisch :insanity
