Post subject:  Murphy The Van (update 2.8.12, going, going...)

Hi all, here will be (hopefully) the ongoing rat-ification of my Suzuki van, Murphy:

Image

The plan is to keep it simple, with a colour theme of black, white and orange, add a few stickers and stuff, and let it degrade naturally!

Image

Any ideas, comments, etc much appreciated!

Hey man and welcome to the club.

Ideas with rat cars are one of those things that you'll start doing one thing and that'll just instinctively lead you on to another thing and so on. Do you have an idea of a theme you would like to go along? Like my 2 rat Volvos were post apocalyptic style, the Holden is a more modern lead sled style rat. I think with your van, as it's white, a little ratty ambulance sorta thing could look really cool.

Or possibly something like this, as you said black white n orange for the color scheme (although there's no black here really but I'm sure some faded graphics on the lower half in black would look sick!

Cheers guys!

It wont be progressing very fast for a while as I'm in the last weeks of my last year at uni, extremely busy!
After that though :rlftw ...

Crazy C: Cheers for the advice, I'm thinking shop van/parts hauler theme, sign write the doors, toolbox and old wheels on the rack, perhaps some stripes down the side, etc, etc...

will have to sketch up a few things I think!

Cheers guys :D
Liam: I NEED those wheels! central wiper is cool too.
Nat: it's already a handful on windy days!

New ideas:
Orange tint for the windows, possible tow truck signwriting, I might print off a heap of Ed Roth stickers or the windows...
and stripes like these:

(except saying Suzuki instead of VW)

I took the ammo box off the roof rack today and found this:

Coincidence? :eek - Murphy is the name of my van...

( I've actually filled it with my art markers and stuff, it's the perfect size!)

Will have an actual update soon :D

Hi guys, thought you all might like to see what I've been up to the last few weeks.

Image

Image

It's my final year project for uni, designing a small, fun car that provides the ultimate driving experience.

It even has a bit of Rat in it! it's designed to wear and chip to reveal new colours everytime you drive it :)

Now that it's finished, let the ratting begin!

Cheers! It's been a labour of love for the full year, glad it's over now!

Prowlers are pretty cool, I wonder what a rat prowler would look like...

To do on the van:

- overhaul the brakes, gearbox and ignition
- underlay in the rear for a quieter ride
- re do the speaker install - properly!
- paint the stripe down the side
- change out the tail and indicator lights to LED panels
- possibly orange wheels or a pinstripe around the lip
- white tyre lettering?

Any suggestions, etc much appreciated!

i think it would look awsome with a australian safari/post apocalyptic theme to it, like olive drab or flat black with some beefy tires and a roof rack full of survival gear :chill
something like this, but less drastic

Hi all, long time no see! Just a few artsy photos, (will get some actual work done soon, I swear!)

Some new additions to Murphy:
Sticker:

stitches

Valve caps (only ones that I could find that were orange!)
Image

And an interior shot, I normally have the carpets in and the loose wires have been tidied up a bit now :)

More to come, including Christmas decorations!

Right, Gave the van it's Christmas the other day, oil, filters and a new aerial (which I've already broken  )

also discovered a nice little rust patch in the passengers footwell, I don't mind rust on the outside, but inside it's a huge No-No! there was surface rust the whole way across the van where the carpet sits and gets wet.

All fixed

Merry Christmas from Murphy and me!

Post subject:  Re: Murphy The Van...

Been a while! Nothing major sorry, just small details that enhance the whole theme (I think :D)

What's been done:
- Raised the roof rack so it doesn't rattle while driving
- added spotlight
- more rust repair for WOF (MOT)
- More stickers
- moved the air horns (down by spot light passenger side, REALLY loud now!)
- little things really...

Image
Image
(my two rat bikes, the red one I've had for 10ish years now)

things to do:
- Signwriting on doors, got the idea, just gotta move ass and do it...
- Bike rack for the cruiser
- more stickers - does anyone know where to find the coca-cola style rat look sticker?

as always, C's and C's welcome :D
