Seasons Greetings from Rat-Look.com!

Author: Ry | Filed under: Rat Look General

Merry Christmas!
Firstly, The date is now set for the New Year Meet and it is going to be on Sunday 10th January 2010 at Hooters, Nottingham NG2 3AS. This is the warm up meet before April’s big RL meet, so if you’re free, get your name down! This will be the first of many rat-look.com events planned for 2010, as we’re aiming to dominate all the major UK shows this year too!. If people thought 2009 was the year of the rat scene, they’ve got another thing coming..

We’d also like to thanks all the publicity we’ve been getting recently from everyone! Retro car mag hit us up with a mention for our first major meet a while back, Performance Ford magazine have mentioned us in the latest issue that features a couple of Rat Fiesta’s, and FastCar Magazine did a entire issue dedicated to the Rat Look, with pictures of our big meet, links to our forum and many of our members having their own feature! (great work guys)

Well done to Rob with his Nissan Assassin and also mada2607, Sophers and VWB and their Xmas themed photoshoot- both won this months December ‘Mainsite Banner’ competition – Pictures will be uploaded onto the mainsite shortly! We also have on the cards some funky Rat Look Merchandise that you’ll soon be able to wear. We’ve currently got some Dog Tags being created with the help of VWB that you can purchase already, but we’re also aiming for some T-Shirts and Hoodies to be available soon – We just need your input and help if you know of any decent places that can produce what we need for a good price!

Chris Knott Insurance

It’s been a long time coming, but now Rat-Look.com members can get a discount through Chris Knott Insurance with your ratted vehicle (which I already have used myself for the past year) and I don’t think that you could be in safer hands. I think everyone’s sick to death of insurance companies who charge huge APR on monthly payments, have rubbish customer service or simply are a pain in the backside when you have to claim from them and then they don’t want to payout, or if they do – give you figures worth only pennies! Hence why I chose these guys. Their feedback speaks for itself. See the banner link above for info.

Tim is actually part of the forum now too, and will try and answer any questions that you may have. Give them a try when your renewals due and see what they can do for you! (don’t forget to quote “REF 986 – RAT-LOOK.COM” for the discount)

Thanks for reading guys and girls. From all the Rat-Look Team, we hope you have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you on the forums and at the Rat Look meets!

A Huge Success For Rat-Look.com

Author: Ry | Filed under: Rat Look General

Welcome to September’s update of rat-look.com. We’ve had an eventful couple of months, namely with the huge success of rat-look.com’s first official meet! with an astounding 50+ people turning out for the event in over 30+ cars, everyone had an amazing time, be it if they were ripping up the drag strip, enjoying the BBQ and beers, the cliché campfire moments or just laughing at the gawping tourists and locals as we cruised around StRatford-upon-Avon on our way to the race-track. Fastcar were also in attendance so watch out for us in a future issue as well as Retro car mag!

If you’re interested in seeing the pictures from our first event then Click Here. For all the details on what went on then check out This thread. Finally if you want to see a video then there is one on Facebook Here. Talks are already under way for next years meet with a few big surprises planned. Finally, thanks to Darren who organised the meet for us all!

Elsewhere on RL, we seen the forums grow, and a couple of the guys have been promoted to Global Moderator status, so the boards will be managed much better. Further cars have been added to the Gallery pages, and a few changes have been made. You can expect the Guides section to be dealt with properly next, along with the forum style finally being completed and the main site generally looking a lil’ bit nicer.. So watch this space.

We also have the online rat-look magazine that is currently in pre-production thanks to mykez69 and a few helpers. We’ll wait and see how this one pans out. As I always say I’d love to hear from you with your thoughts and suggestions, so get emailing on the contact page! Already I’ve had people from around the world comment on how they love the site which is great! But if you have any further ideas then that would be awesome too.

That’s it for this update though. I’m having trouble with coming up with cheesy lines to say goodbye with, so for now ‘Catch you next time when we’re even bigger and much better!’ /Cheese.

lbrench’s Guide to Checkering

Author: Ry | Filed under: Rat Look Guides

What you will need

*a car
*black paint (rattle can works best)
*halfords viper stripes (£9.99)
*a sharp scapel or stanley knife
*a metal ruler
*a lot of masking tape and alot of newspaper

Start off by masking up your car, cover everything like windows and
body work like this;

Then clean to roof with something like paint prep wipes (about £2.99)
this wil make sure the roof is clean and the paint sticks, the spray
the roof with a rattle can of your choice, for the first coat do a light
coat and dont spray too close because then the paint will run, with
a good rattle can it will take about 20 mins to dry, then apply your
second coat, this time make it abit heavier.

Once the roof is sprayed leave it over night and check it, if you are
happy with the thickness then you can start on the squares, if not then
you can do a few more coats.

The viper stripes come as 2 really really long strips of white vinyl,
measure how wide the strip is and cut it the same width as length so
you get perfect squares, you will need about 20/30 squares, this should
cover any roof, I think I used about 20 but my car is quite small, once
they are cut start in the middle of the roof so you can work outwards,
make sure you use a credit card or something to smooth the vinyl on,
it also helps if you have 2 people, if you do it right it should look
like this;

When you get to the edges its best to put the vinyl on then let it hang
over the edge then cut the edge off using your metal ruler and scalpel
or stanley knife, this also applies to the sunroof. Once its finished
you can either spray it with clear laquer or just leave it as it is..

I also recommend using grafitti paint instead of car paint because it
sets harder and last alot longer and also dries 10 times faster. Iget
mine from this website, you can get 3 for 14.99 and three cans is more
than enough for one roof, Iwent through about 1 and a half cans, when
you order it doesnt have to be 3 of the same colour either so you could
do a multi coloured roof base if you wanted.
Thanks

Lynden
