Evening peeps!

Just a quick update to let you all know that the 2nd Official Rat Look meet has been planned. It’s been pinned ‘Return of the Rat’. Fifty of the UK’s best rat cars rocking out to beers, tunes, drag racing, time attack, moddin’ by moonlight and the 1 hour ‘Rat Challenge’ hosted by Gimp Getswood himself. All held at Shakespeare County Raceway in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

This is penned in for May 22nd/23rd 2010 – The bad news for people who are just reading this is that all 50 places were taken in a matter of days. It may bring a tear to your eye, but don’t worry! As we have another official meet a few months down the line after this one, with a date of August the 28th/29th! Check out the below links for further details.

You know this is going to be another crazy meet! Keep an eye out on the forum for more details on this and any future events, as we’re not only organising our own meets, but we’re now taking part with the major UK shows this year..

Peace out!

BROCKMEISTER’S GUIDE TO WHITEWALLING TYRES

Author: RL Moderators | Filed under: Rat Look Guides

Please note *
This guide is how I went about tackling my tyres , and i am not responsible for your tyres if they go pete-tong :tu

PART ONE*********************************************************************

So , best off removing the wheel’s off the car…if you use your car on a daily basis , i suggest you do 1 at a time

With the wheel off , what i did was wire wheel the area you intend painting , as i was going for the FAT look , the complete sidewall was done .

Once done you will need to give the tyre a good wash to get rid of any rubber particles that will have come off ..a good scrubbing with a good detergent will sort that out …just make sure it does’nt contain any wax

And give the tyre a good rinse .

Now , this will have to dry before the next stage..if your handy with a hairdryer get busy .
Next once dry, i cleaned the tyre again with a paint brush and a bit of cellulose thinner , whitespirit may do the same..and again ,this need’s to dry

This first part is the most important..get the prep right , and the next part is plain sailing :tu

PART TWO..
so with the tyres all clean and dry , it’s time to break open the whitewall paint..

There are instruction’s on the tin …however, this next part of the guide is not..

What i did was ..an empty spray can lid or similar , spoon a bit of the paint into that , add a wee bit of whitespirit just enough to thin the paint down a bit and give the tyre a good even thin coat

Do make sure you use a good quality brush /sponge brush , That is most important ..i found that if you stipple the paint rather than stroking you get into the edges a lot easier.
With the initial first semi coat on , by the time you’ve got around the entire wheel , the first bit where you started will be dry , ready for the next coat . The next coat , use the paint direct from the tin ..this is really the first coat as directed by the tin instruction’s ..and i would suggest you do do the 3 coats as recomended.
Here’s a pic of the layer build up..

Do it like that x3 and you’ll end up with this ..

;

Follow the same rules with the other 3 tyres. Also ..do allow 24 hours drying before you re-fit to your car .then comes the moment you refit ..stand back , and admire your new white tyres .

Happy Birthday Rat-Look.com!

Author: Ry | Filed under: Rat Look General

A year ago today was the day I thought to myself *I’m bored of car forums and I’m bored of seeing what the next sheep has done to their vehicle*.

Then I came across the many styles of ratting by total fluke on a image search.. It felt a bit like the first time I watched the Sex Pistols on TV.

I quickly came across this abused drift example and I was totally hooked!

Nissan 180SX Abused and Ratted

It had to happen, it was going happen, and it did! The rest is history. Hours later the website was bought and being worked on constantly, and still is to this day.

So I type this just to say thanks to everyone that’s become part of the community and forum – you’re all a great, friendly bunch and have some fantastic cars that forever change.

For the moderators and event organisers for all their hard work, for the magazines and their coverage, for the people that love the many rat styles old and new, and even more thanks for the people that hate everything about this style which makes the rest of us bond together even more! (we love you).

All I’m left to say is – Happy Birthday Rat-Look.com!

Website Update

Author: Ry | Filed under: Rat Look General, Rat Look Site Updates

Evening all! Thought I’d drop a quick post in before 2010 hits!

Most of you will notice a slight(!) change in the website. Yup – We’ve upgraded! Something easier to manage, so we can update you lot more often with the latest rat news, even via twitter on the top right, add further rat cars to the gallery and also a calendar on the right hand side bar so you don’t miss any of the important shows or meets this year! Click each link on that and it’ll take you straight to the thread you want on the forum with all the info!

We’ve got a few tiny things to clear up still, but hopefully it’ll add enjoyment to the website for everyone involved. Expect another update shortly with other news.

That’s all for now folks!
