was hoping to have it insured and un-sorn by the end of day and on the road by monday so I can get it to a friends to do the final tuning bits.

But now looking at how ive got to wait 5 days for the tax disc, Im not going to bother this weekend, as Im prob still over the drink drive limit today, and cant get to the post office before 12 noon.

Right update:
Gearbox is 100% in now. Had a few issues with the gear linkages because I bolted it into the wrong hole on the gearbox.

Turned it over and vrrrmmmmmm!
Bit of flames and some turning over but first time starting since mid-september after I bought it. As I wasnt expecting us to turn it over I never recorded it.

The clutch arm needs modding as the last owner did a rubbish job repairing it so it needs lowering about 2 inches. (Currently using a socket as a big washer) However when it was right it got into every gear.

So now Ive got to get it off the bricks and drive it on the drive to pop the ball joint back in its hole and bolt in.

My caddy leaving the garage for the first time since September. Nothing special.
The faces were due to the gearbox not working right. :( Also got stuck at the end of the drive with no reverse.

So new plans for the gearbox.... bin! GTI 5 speed going in instead.

Caddys almost done! Hoped i would be on the road for christmas, but dont think Ill make it now. :sadness

Engine bay just needs a few final jobs doing:
-speedo bolted back in
-gearbox oil level checking
-air filter fitted properly
-gear linkage bits finishing off (biggest job)

Then work out why the heaters not working and a new steering wheel then im done!

a little update.
So been fiddling about during the period between christmas and new year.

Went over to A1 car scrapage yard to hopefully find the gear linkage bits I wanted. Managed to finally find a mk2 golf and had its selector lever and the relay shaft ball thing as I'd read I may need that too.

So got back and swopped both bits over. The 5spd leve was about twice as long and the ball was 5mm bigger in diametre.

Without taking it down the road I can find reverse and Im 90% sure 5 forward gears! :cheers o'clock once that was all done.

Air filters fitted properly now too, and just needs the engine breather pipe connected up to the filter.

Dash did go back in but discovered Id forgotten to put a bulb in and I decided to order some tweeters.

Mid january is now when I can get it insured so I can drive it around. Then hopefully it'll have a new cam belt, ball joint fixed and carb set up end of januray

Open to your views as always.

Update but with no pictures.
Finally sold the 4x4, swopped the insurance over and tax old rusty. So yesterday I slowly took it up to a friends so we could pop the ball joint back in (took ages of fiddling), changed the cam belt, set up the timing, and carburettor.
Also made a fitting so the engine breather can now go back into the carb however its abit low so I've got to buy an oil catch can and place it higher up.
Then took it for a ride and on the way home there was a big bang/grinding! The bolts on the nearside prop shaft had come loose (lost two) so lost drive and had to be pulled home. Must of not tightened them after fiddling with the ball joint. :mad

so an update:
Broken my flag wing mirror the other day whilst trying to make to not flap around on the move. So I'm trying to fit a mk1 gti mirror with not much luck.
Also sorted out the cv joint, but still got to fix the dissy as its making it idle all over the place.

But drove it to work friday (60mile round trip, mainly motorway) and it sat happily at 65 but could of gone faster.
:devil It spits fire on a cold start up I've been told (no choke).

Got told i might need to hide it in a barn if the boss man comes wondering or has friends over. Shouldn't be to bad as it won't be my daily.

hopefully coming soon will be some of the caddy on the move when i first bought it...

The caddy is gorgeous fella :tu

Although I'm not a big fan of red wheels, they sit perfect with the rest of the caddy, props! :D

How are you finding bumps and generally shabby roads with that stance mate? :eek

the wheels will hopefully by the summer be creamy white (like the remaining lacquered white paintwork) as I'm not a big fan of the contrast.

Bumps aren't too bad as I'm not as low as I could go (got about 3 inches left on the coil overs) but tbh I had a 4x4 that was on leaf springs that were made even stiffer with addaleafs so everythings better than that.

Right you opinions please.

In the advert when I bought it, it said the wheels were powder coated red. However on closer inspection it looks like a messy DIY job.

So Im going to be getting my alloys refurbished (either by myself or pros) but can't decided what colour to go:
1. Red - so they stand out against the car?

2. Black - so they go with the car?
think this will make the whole thing too dark.

3. Creamy white - go with the original car colour on the bonnet

4. Other

What Colour do you recon?

I think white will looks best of the three colors.

Red and brown .... don't know, looks pretty good but white matches the bonnet like you said so ... and black I think it really sucks, black rims, black tyres ... a waste of the alloy imo.
